FAQ

WHAT IS AN RDHAP?

RDHAP's are unique to California; they are Registered Dental Hygienists in Alternative Practice. This designation came about in the early 2000's to fill a need for those with difficulty accessing dental care. An RDHAP can work independently of a dentist, but must refer the patient to have a dental exam done at lease once every 2 years. Services RDHAP's can provide include medical and dental assessments, prophylaxis, SRP's (AKA "deep cleaning" without anesthesia), fluoride treatment, sealants, and x-rays when necessary.

CAN I BE SEEN BY AN RDHAP?

RDHAP's can provide services to homebound patients, school-based programs, clients in residential facilities and nursing homes, as well as own their own businesses in certain areas.
